Grazia – Heat bonding

Grazia has worked with us for over 20 years and over this time she’s built up such an immense skillset and experience. She’s not only an amazing seamstress, Grazia is also excited about learning new techniques. She jumped at the chance to work on the new heat bonding press we invested in. In this video you can see Grazia starting the process of making a pair of bibshorts. Taking the cut and printed panels, she carefully applies a glue strip to a silicone hem. She then marries up a lycra panel perfectly to the hem and then swings the heat press across and applies the pressure plate.

Using heat strips on the hems and straps results in shorts that retain more of the stretch of lycra. Sewing these parts of a pair of bibshorts adds stiffness because stitches and cotton thread can’t stretch. The key to a very comfortable pair of shorts is that they stretch and move with the rider. Not only this, because the straps are very stretchy, it means taller riders can get the perfect fitting shorts for their waist as the straps will stretch to their height.

In a later video, we will show you Grazia showing off her very special skills and experience when she stitches a pad into a pair of shorts. This is a very difficult but so important part of the production process.
